Mikroton
Mikroton is a residency for contemporary music in east Leipzig. Twice a year, it provides space for the development and realisation of a new production in a former industrial space on the second floor of the arts and crafts courtyard hp_sieben.
The space is open, functional and shaped by its industrial past. This environment forms the context for rehearsals, research and the development of new musical works.
On the floor below is a historical workshop for precision mechanics. The precision and technical care practised there over decades stand as a symbol for a way of working that also plays a role in music: careful listening, adjusting, refining.
The residency uses this location as a matter-of-fact, productive context – without staging, with a focus on process and outcome.
The Mikroton Residency is a cooperation between FOKUS Forum für künstlerische Umsetzung e.V. and hp_sieben e.V.
The Mikroton Residency is funded by the City of Leipzig – Office of Cultural Affairs.
